In the wake of the devastating Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the Ramakrishna Mission started, from the very first day of the calamity, massive relief and rehabilitation operations for thousands of affected people in the Island. Several thousands of victims were served with water, cooked food, dry food, clothing, medical aids, mats, mosquito nets, kitchen utensils, exercise books, study materials, uniforms, shoes, bags, boats & fishing nets, sewing machines, etc. to the tune of Rs. 17 million. The children were provided with the services of counselors to cope up with the traumatic experiences.
